New Horizons

The new year is a time of transition for all of us, and this is certainly true for the members of the Trio: Cristian has begun a new chapter at Curtis, Andrew prepares for his final semester of college before spending a year in Beijing, and Drew starts a new job in Cincinnati. Our program New Horizons will reflect a remembrance of how far we’ve come and an optimism for the future, as we look forward to always returning to Charlotte for many more years of concerts.

The Charlotte Piano Trio will be performing the following works on Thursday December 28 at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Park Road Baptist Church, located at 3900 Park Road:

MOZART: Piano Trio No. 5 in C, K. 548
POULENC: Sonata for Cello and Piano, FP 143
TCHAIKOVSKY: Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 150

We hope you will join us for a thrilling night of music and reflection.

In Memoriam: Trios of Remembrance

The Charlotte Piano Trio will be performing Sunday, May 28, at 6 p.m. in CPCC's beautiful Tate Hall (1206 Elizabeth Avenue).

This Memorial Day Weekend, the Trio will be performing three legendary works:

RACHMANINOFF: Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor
PIAZZOLLA: Four Seasons of Buenos Aires
SHOSTAKOVICH: Trio No. 2 in E minor

In each work, the composer honors but builds upon the memory of three inspirational musical figures: for Rachmaninoff, this was Tchaikovsky; for Piazolla, Vivaldi; and for Shostakovich, his dear friend Ivan Sollertivsky. In this Memorial Weekend concert, which we have entitled In Memoriam, we, too, will seek to put our own flare on these remarkable works.

We also wish to thank our very special patron and longtime supporter, Eileen Klimkowski, who has generously agreed to underwrite the substantial rental costs for this performance. This concert would not have been possible without her.

***Directions to hall: Enter the lobby of the Overcash building through the main entrance facing Kings Drive and Uptown Charlotte. Take the stairs or elevator on the right to the second floor. Signs will be posted directing you to the entrance of Tate Hall.

The featured ensemble will be The Charlotte Piano Trio, a group of young artists who represent chamber music excellence in the Charlotte area and are dedicated to performing annual community concerts.

“The response to this new series has been very rewarding,” says Polly Feitzinger, Asheville Chamber Music Series Board Member and Program Chair.  “Intended as a performance opportunity for gifted, young North Carolinia musicians, these performances enable us to catch rising stars early in their careers.  Our first such concert in September, featured Hendersonville native, pianist Christopher Tavernier who performed to a standing room only audience,” she added.
